Average Cholesterol Level Falls to 199

The average cholesterol level of American adults dropped below 200 last year, according to a report from the National Center for Health Statistics.
The decrease was mainly in men over 40 and women over 60 and the report also indicated that the percentage of adults with total cholesterol of 240 or higher decreased from 20% in 1994 to 16% in 2006.
Researchers credited the decrease to increased use of cholesterol-lowering drugs and the high incidence likelihood to receive screening and treatment to these age groups.
